NeuroKinetic Therapy® (NKT®)

NeuroKinetic Therapy, (NKT) also known as Neuromuscular Reprogramming® is an innovative method of manual therapy which utilizes manual muscle testing to assess and correct dysfunctions of the coordination system of the brain.

These dysfunctions commonly result from traumatic injury, over/under-use, repetitive stress, or postural stress. These neuromuscular impediments are eliminated resulting in the immediate correction of imbalances and compensation patterns.

NKT works with the body’s organizational intelligence, addressing pain at its source. At The Body Mechanic, we quickly and accurately correct the dysfunctional postural and movement patterns that are the source of most chronic pain and degeneration.

Benefits of NKT

The history of NKT

NeuroKinetic Therapy was developed in 1985 and has since gained exposure around the world. The system intends to treat acute and chronic injuries while outlining a customized program of exercise for the patient to practice at home for ongoing rehabilitation.

Dysfunctional movement and coordination problems often originate in the brain. The cerebellum’s “motor control center” serves as a blueprint for movement patterns and outlines their progression from the beginning of a movement to its end. When this blueprint possesses improper patterns injuries in surrounding areas can occur.

For example, consider a runner with a knee injury; the motor control center will compensate by diverting the burden to surrounding areas of the leg. This significantly increases the risk of further injury. Even when the cause for dysfunction or improper movement is treated, the patient will still use improper compensatory movements as they have become deeply ingrained in the motor control center.

At The Body Mechanic, we combine a comprehensive system of therapies and corrective exercises practiced by a skilled and licensed practitioner to set you on the road to recovery.
